Firearm Transfers

       Firearm Transfers

How does it work?  We will explain how to legally transfer your firearm to a valid and local FFL in this section, and dismiss some misconceptions along the way!

1. If you see a firearm online you are interested in purchasing, buy it through that particular site.

2. Before Checking out, make sure you select a local FFL for the firearm to be transferred to. Chris' Customs LLC is listed on a majority of the firearm sites. Select us, then the process starts!

3. Upon arrival of the firearm we will call, text, or email ; whatever your preferred method of contact is.

4. After setting up a convenient time for picking up your firearm here at Chris' Customs LLC, you will come and complete a Federal Firearms application (4473). This form ensures you are legally eligible to  purchase and own a firearm. At this time a background check will be conducted. In the state of South Carolina, if an individual is a concealed carrier issued by SLED (South Carolina Law Enforcement Division) this CWP negated the Background Check.

  • Myth: Not everyone has to fill out one of these 4473 forms

  • Truth: Yes every valid FFL requires this action.

  • Myth: If I am put on delay during the background check for a firearm, that automatically means I will be denied a firearm.

  • Truth: Not necessarily, sometimes the system is overwhelmed or your particular name is common, and it will take a few extra days to process.

  • Myth: If I am not a state resident I cannot legally transfer a firearm.

  • Truth: Yes and No. For a long gun such as a rifle or shotgun, being an out of state resident does not disqualify you. For pistols you must be a state resident and have a state issued valid I.D. For out of state residents attempting to get a pistol, you must be a property owner and extra paperwork is required.

  • Myth: I can prefill out the 4473 application before the firearm arrives.

  • Truth: No this is not a legal procedure. The firearm must be listed on the form with model, serial number, caliber, and classification. Also, a Valid FFL must witness you and only you filling out the form at the time of transfer.

5. Once the transaction of filling out the paperwork and Background Check are complete. Payment is required. Chris' Customs LLC charges $20.00 in form of cash. In order for us to keep our costs low, we try to avoid using credit cards for these transactions and occurring service fees associated with them.  Our $20.00 fee applies to 1-3 guns on the same transaction, or $20.00 per application.

6. Congratulations! The firearm is now legally yours. Chris' Customs LLC will provide you with a receipt for record showing the transfer was conducted through us. This is for your personal use. In the event the firearm is stolen or lost, you can contact us with the approx. date of  transfer, and we can provide you with your firearm's model and serial number in order to file the proper reports.
